Measuring and Application slight failure

So, getting my things together. I don't know if I'm on schedule or not, but I think I am. Have forgotten to check it.
Either way, I finally got a way to take measurements of the stage. I got my not-principal's (They call him "Artistical Leader" instead)copy of the blueprint of the stage. God do I feel awesome. It's only top-down view though, so I had to ask him about the height. He guessed 10 - 11 meters, and from floor and up it should be 1 - 1.5 meters.
Either way, I'm actually measuring right now and will write down the sizes here.

Full Width: 17 meters (+2 meters due to lines and stuff being in the way)
Full Depth: 11.5 meters (-1.5 metres at front due to the orchestra ditch)
"Window" width: 11 meters (window means the part of the stage that's actually see-able from the audience).
Pants Width: 8.5 meters (width between pants in a standard set-up)
Floor height: 10.5 meters
Stage height: 1.2 meters (guesstimating floor and stage height)

In addition, two of the walls are diagonal. The left wall from front is 1.5 meters shorter at the back compared to the front. The back wall is 1 meter deeper at the left compared to the rigth.

So, in short:
Width: Full - Min. Stuff- Window - Pants
19 17 11 8.5

Depth: Full - Min. Ditch
11.5 10

Height: Roof - Stage
10.5 1.2

Well, enough of that for now. Let's go to the bad news.
I've filed my request for money. Waited a few days. No answer, contacted her and she hadn't checked her box yet. Also due to some new rules, it's no longer the principal who are going to handle those. Apparently it's another teacher, the one in charge of the project course. My principal said she'd give it to her. Waited a few days, asked the other teacher, she hadn't received them yet. Today I'm gonna mail the principal and she what has happened.

Afterthought:
Well, I could just as well crunch some numbers regarding scale. The miniatures are 32mm in scale according to the company themself. Did a quick search for miniature model scale and a 32mm mini is 1:57.2 in scale. So 1cm equals to 57.2cm in real life. A mini is 3.2cm in height, meaning that in real life they'd be 3.2x57.2 = 183 cm. Ehh, a little too large for your common person. I'm gonna change it a little. 32mm would be closer to 1:54 in scale, making the minis 173cm in real life. A fine, average height.
That means the formula to get the right number for the scale would be by dividing by 54, or Size / 54 = Model. To control-check, I'm pressing in 173 / 54 on my calculator. It says 3.2. I'm happy.

Now, if we run the numbers on those measurements I took...
For easier to read, I'm adding a few zeros to get in in cm instead.

Width: Full - Min. Stuff - Window - Pants
1900 1700 1100 850
/54

Width: Full - Min. Stuff - Window - Pants
35.2 31.5 20.4 15.7
-----------------------------------------

Depth: Full - Min. Ditch
1150 1000

Depth: Full - Min. Ditch
21.3 18.5
--------------------------------------

Height: Roof - Stage
1050 120

Height: Roof - Stage
19.5 2.2
------------------------------------
Whew, that was a mouthful!
I can honestly say though that I'm satisfied with these numbers and myself after this.
And that concludes the update for today... Now to send some mails to my principal regarding the application for money!

Edit: Well, oops. It seems my numbers are slightly wrong, as I measured a Infinity figure recently. She stands to 35mm, not 32, making a big difference. I don't know if Malifaux figures are as tall... but I believe they are. I will have to ask someone with an actual Malifaux figure of their actual height so that I may change my measurements appropriately. I noticed this whilst marking out lines for what was supposed to be the floor... it simply looked to small.

Doing my November part

So, this morning I *finally* did, erm, most of the things I was supposed to do in November.

What I did was that first I decided upon which stage I wanted to replicate in terms of size. I went with Lund's City Theatre in the end. It's bigger and more well-known to my school. Then I went and found an online retailer for Foamboard and all the other things I'm going to buy, with the exception of LEDs. I'll get to LEDs later, and I can probably buy them in Sweden anyway.
Either way, I decided to buy Foamboard as well as a few other things from Antenociti's Workshop. Great place for your scratchbuilding needs, really recommend it.
The shopping list from there looked like this:

Foamboard x7 -
Plain Sheet Styrene Black x6 (2x 1mm, 2x 3mm, 2x 2mm) -
Lim x1 -
= 16.68£
+ 15.56£ shipping
= ~32£

Yup yup. Not too much now that you think about it, but it's enough. With these I can manage to build the least amount needed to get a result I'm willing to show my classmates and be proud of... though I hope that I'll be able to fix the whole thing.
Next was the models, and a new can of Black Spray Primer... From Firestorm Games!

Malifaux Showgirls Box Set - 24.30£
Malifaux Angelica - 6.30£
Army Painter Primer Black - 6.35£
= £37.35
+ 0£ Shipping
= £37.35

Welp. At least I got some sweet, free shipping.
I decided to add another mini because that gives me 7 in total, and with 7 I'm able to do a V-formation on stage, which I hope will look pretty.
All in all, these orders come in at about £70, which is about 750 SEK. Sigh.
I estimate that if I go all the way with LEDs, batteries and cables I will easily break the 100£ / 1000 SEK line.
But boy, it's going to be nice.

The only part left to do in November is to request for money at school.

Time plan

Today, I finally sat down and made a time plan for all the way until the end of the Winter break. I realized I might now have as much to do as I first suspected (and feared).
My first thought was that I'd want to build the stage when school isn't there to bother me. And when is that? During holidays!
Naturally, the main upcoming holiday is Winter and Christmas holiday, so my plan revolves around me building most things during that time.
Roughly, the plan looks something like this:
November:
Estimate cost of material (I suspect this might go sky-high... Foamcore, Plasticard, Miniatures, LED-lights and everything else. Sigh.)
Demand monetary support for buying material (I'm able to get a few hundred SEK to help pay for the costs).
Pick stage to base my stage on (Either Lunds Stadsteater (City Theatre of Lund) as that's where I study, or Medborgarhuset i Eslöv (Citizen's House in Eslöv) as I live in Eslöv and has been on that stage a lot... Plus, it's smaller so easier to replicate).

December:
Buy materials (I am not looking forward to this...)
Take measurements of the stage. Sketch a blueprint in the scale I want it. Start marking the materials for where I'm going to cut it, and begin cutting it if there's time to do so.

Christmas Holiday:
Start building, and build at least all the main parts (Floor, walls, roof). I can save details such as the stage's curtain and lights etc. for later.

After that I'll make a time plan for the spring of 2013 based on how well I managed to follow this plan. Wish me luck.

The idea

Okay, this is my first post, so I figured it'd be a good time to describe why I'm doing this (for those of you who don't know) and what I'm doing.

So, basically, during the last year of the gymnasium (as in 12th grade in school), you have to do a project relating to the line of studies you've chosen. I've chosen dance.

So, I had to do something related to dancing. But I did want to a project involving my miniature model hobby. And then my idea sprung: I would make a miniature stage.

So far I've figured out pretty much how I'll do it. First, I need a base of some kind. This will most likely be either foamcore or plasticard. Next are the walls - definitively foamcore, and a roof of whatever the base will be done of. The roof will be removable.
Beneath the base will be a layer of magnetic sheet. On the stage itself I'll have a few example minis (I've chosen the Malifaux Showgirls:

These will have magnetised bases.
To the sides of the stage I'll have a few legs. No, not real ones, legs on a stage are more like curtains (known as byxor, e.g. pants in Swedish), most likely made out of Plasticard glues to a fixed position.
In the ceiling I'll have a few horizontal bars to serve as anchors for the LED-lights I plan on inserting there.

The LED-lights will be of different colours to serve as a way of testing different stage-lights so you don't have to try it on stage. I'll try and see if I'm able to turn them on and off individually, but it might be a little too much work for me. If it turns out to be too hard, I'm just going have them in groups based on their colour.
The magnetized base-sheet and the magnetized bases will serve as a way to be able to try out formations on stage in advance. I'm looking for magnets weak enough so they won't be a hassle to move around and still not fall from their places if the stage is moved.

And that's my idea.
